Should Chris Watts' mistress Nichol Kessinger be jailed?
A Look into Nichol Kessinger by Mandeep Rai
Nichol Kessinger's suspicious behaviour before and after the tragic murder of Shanann Watts, her 2 daughters and unborn son has caused public outrage. Did she know more than she led officers to believe, or is she innocent?
What did Kessinger do?
- She attempted to delete all phone evidence of her messages with Chris Watts
- She suggested Watts delete messages and photos with her on his phone
- She insisted she was unaware that Shanann was pregnant, despite her phone's search history revealing she had viewed Shanann's Facebook account multiple times
- Phone records show she had not called Watts the day of the murders, however her phone showed that she was in the same area as Watts
- After the murders, her search history showed that she had been looking into selling her story, getting a book deal and if the public had hated Scott Peterson's mistress
- She suggested Watts' pawn Shanann's wedding ring
- In what is now considered to be Kessinger doing some damage control, a picture was found of Watts' computer screen on the day of the murder. Kessinger stated that she had asked Watts to prove he was at work. It is believed that Watts had researched G.I.T, which allows 2 people to access a computer from different locations. After the murders, Watts had searched for lyrics to the song "Battery", which he later said Kessinger asked him to do
- Kessinger had been searching online for wedding dresses and affair scenarios prior to the murders, and attempted to delete this from her browser history. She also deleted searches for whether the police could find deleted messages
- When investigators asked Kessinger where she was when the murders took place, she said she was with a friend, Jim, but then asked them not to contact him
- Kessinger only told investigators about her affair with Watts when her employer came forward with the information, but not when she was asked
What do you think - did she know? To learn more about this case, I recommend watching the new Netflix documentary : American Murder: The Family Next Door
